Our performance project for the Isle of Ely Arts Festival 2018 was “The Running Hare”, a new one-hour show combining contemporary dance and poetry. We explored themes from the book, to do with the reduction in the number and variety of flora and fauna in the land the author took over and how the natural world bounced back when allowed to. The programme was in three sections: “The Field”, “The River” and “The Running Hare”. We collaborated with Kate Caiomhe Arthur, the 2017 Fenland Poet Laureate, who read “Saint Melangell and the Hare”, a new poem that we commissioned. Ely-based recorder virtuoso Philip Mizen played the intensely difficult “Music for a Bird”. Music for the dance programme included numbers by “contemporary classical” composers Yann Tiersen, Nils Frahm and Eric Whitacre. Thanks to all who attended.
