News from Lantern Dance Theatre School

John Lowe 1919-2018

Our great friend John Lowe passed away on 20th February 2018, aged 98. John was a phenomenon, a man whose indomitable spirit and love of life carried him from Changi Prison in 1942 to starting ballet with Helen  in 1998, when aged 79. In 2008 the world’s press covered the story of his debut in our school ballet, “The Stone Flower”, and a new media star was born. Helen made the ten minute ballet “An Artist’s Life” for him in 2009; John performed it with the company in Ely Cathedral on his 90th birthday. We send condolences to his family and salute an inspiring and delightful friend.

Balletone is open to all, Friday 11:15-12:15 at Chequer Studio. A gentle movement class, excellent for improving posture, tone and body condition. Each session contains a range of carefully chosen dance-based exercises and music to be enjoyed in a relaxed supportive atmosphere. Suitable for all ages and abilities. No dance experience or training necessary.

Fees are unchanged again this year. They must be paid half termly in advance, except for Nursery Playdance, which can be paid weekly. Everyone can catch up on missed classes during the term. Family and multiple class discounts available.

Our Patron SOLOMON GOLDING (with hat) is pictured with brother Kidane Cousland, winner of the Sword of Honour at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in April 2016.
